So, what is the best way to clean your oven, without curling into a foetal position? Follow these simple steps to get the best results!
1. Choose the right product:
Many people are after an eco-friendly solution, but if your oven hasn’t been clean in a while, we recommend using a more heavy-duty product, easily found in the cleaning section of your local grocer.
2. Ventilate the room as much as possible, and put on gloves.
These heavy-duty oven cleaning products are great, but they are dangerous if not used correctly. Any parts of the oven that can be removed, such as the steel wracks, trays and even side shelving grills should be removed and taken outside to a safe, well ventilated area before being sprayed.
When spraying the inside of your oven, ensure windows are open and your range-hood/ceiling vent is turned on. Wear thick gloves and ensure the spray makes no contact with your skin.
3. Spray efficiently
Most of us don’t read the fine print of anything, but we do! Most oven cleaners consist of a thick chemical composition that needs to be come through a small spray hole. So, if you take off the lid of your spray can, you should be able to see a small dot, or arrow on the head of the bottle. This is the idea position to turn your spray nozzle. When doing this, you should hear a small “click”. Also, in between use, always rinse the nozzle under warm water to stop blockage.
4. Wait 15-30 Minutes
Depending on how dirty your oven is, waiting time will vary. The best way to check is to wipe a small area of your oven surface to see if the grease has softened enough to be completely wiped clean. Sometimes it takes a little elbow grease to get the stains off, but it should come off regardless.
5. Thoroughly wipe down
You do not want any oven cleaning agent left behind in your oven. It may leave a white stain on your surfaces when the oven is turned on, and you don’t want to be cooking dinner inside a chemically charge chamber!
When it comes to maintenance and minimal follow-up cleaning, find a tray that’s compatible in size for your oven, line it with aluminium foil, and place it on the bottom of your oven. When the tray becomes greasy, just throw out the aluminium foil, and replace with a clean one.
